Experience

Harold L. Marquis has litigated intellectual property cases in federal and state courts and in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Harold has arbitrated before the World Intellectual Property Organization concerning domain names. Harold's patent prosecution experience includes a wide range of mechanical and chemical technologies. In particular, Harold has prepared and prosecuted a large number of chemical patent applications. He also has extensive experience in the packaging and photography fields. Harold also has trademark prosecution experience, handling over 1000 domestic and foreign trademark cases.

Harold regularly counsels clients and renders opinions concerning the infringement or non-infringement of patents, the validity or invalidity of patents, and the design of products and processes to avoid potential patent infringement assertions. He also has drafted and negotiated many licenses of intellectual property as corporate counsel for a major corporation.

He has represented individuals accused of copyright infringement for downloading copyrighted music and successfully negotiated settlements with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

He was a full time professor of law at Emory Law School and other prestigious law schools for many years and at one point the Acting Dean of Emory Law School. Harold is licensed to practice in Georgia and is admitted to practice before the Northern District of Georgia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Harold is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
